Review of Fat Goth on The Crabbies Hothouse Stage at Belladrum, 9th of August, 2014.

Fat Goth 3 300x199 - No Messing
“They make Avenged Sevenfold look like prissy little One Directioners”

Fat Goth have returned to Bella for another year and this time they’ve graduated from the Seedlings Stage to the Hothouse Stage. More room to make more noise and make noise they do.

They stare you full in the face and proceed to sonically and aurally abuse Belladrum with a succession of face melting riffs and pile driver hooks. There’s little chatter between songs, aside from one attempt at a joke, but a punter spoils the punch line, in return receiving a baleful stare and a ‘fuck you’ from front man Fraser Stewart.

“Each song is delivered which a primal raw aggression”
There’s no let up over the next thirty or so minutes. Each song is delivered which a primal raw aggression and a menace that you see precious little of in so called ‘metal’ bands these days. They make Avenged Sevenfold look like prissy little One Directioners and give Slayer a run for their money in pounding, evil bass lines.

The only slight disappointment is that the attendance in the tent is on the low side but that could be more to do with the early-ish timeslot and a good proportion of the masses were likely hiding in their tents working off last night’s hangover. The wusses.

If we don’t find this lot creeping even higher up the billing in the coming years then it’ll be a crying shame. We need to see circle pits down at the Garden Stage and Fat Goth are the band to provide the backing music.

Do not mess with this band, they will make your ears bleed, but you’ll probably like it anyway won’t you? You animal.

I've always loved music and spent my late teens and early twenties playing guitar in various bands on Lewis and Aberdeen. Other than playing in some truly terrifying pubs in Aberdeen not much came of it and life became focused on family and having a 'proper' job. Inverness Gigs is an outlet for me to quell my inner frustrated musician and the caliber of local acts has even inspired me to take my own music more seriously again. Who knows, one day I might venture back on stage under the fierce scrutiny of an Inverness Gigs reviewer! You can contact Toby direct at Toby@Igi.gs
