With his last visit to the Ironworks being in 2013 the self confessed purveyor of “hobo-chic” returns to the venue on Sunday the 3rd of August as part of his Scottish tour.

‘the Duke’s honeyed tones are perfect for these honest, passionate songs about love and loss.’ **** The Independent
Mike Driver once surmised “ Duke Special doesn’t need the charts – but they could do with more artists like him.” His creativity has seem him involved in diverse projects including writing the theme tune to Sesame Tree (the Northern Ireland edition of Sesame Street).

The Independent responded to his 2012 release, ‘Oh Pioneer’ by declaring that “Duke is in a world of his own” and on reading his explanation of the influences, it’s hard to argue;

“Wooden Fingers Puppet Theatre Company, The Bank of Ideas, a banned Iranian children’s book about a fish, a pirate who wants to retire, a bar man who hears people’s stories whether he likes it or not, the human condition and late night conversations with friends on the roof of the ‘Oh Yeah’ building about your dreams are just a few of the ingredients to go into “Oh Pioneer”.”

Described as “Blissfully at home in his own alluring genre of beautifully bruised romanticism” there is no better example than ‘Freewheel’ initially released in 2005.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene.In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
