“Brown remains both an influential role model, and a skilful artist with a future.” The Guardian

Hailing from Barking East London this self-taught sax supremo with a global reputation arrives at our very own Eden Court on June 19th.

Supremely talented and a fascinating individual, this event looks like it might be one of the highlights of what is proving to be a busy and notable year here in the Highlands. YolanDa Brown is a musician with a social conscience and a real passion for her craft.

With a reputation as a generous teacher, Brown also has several charitable projects that she supports and is working towards launching her own charitable foundation.

Musically YolanDa Brown comes with an impressive CV having collaborated with a variety of jazz, r’n’b and soul artists including the likes of Alexander O’Neal, Mica Paris, Soweto Kinch and The Temptations. Her own material is top drawer with a broad palette grounded in a smooth or ‘pop-jazz’ it takes creative detours to include ska and reggae.

A double MOBO award winner and, with her album April Showers having reached No.1 in the iTunes chart, this promises to be an exceptional evening.

Tickets available via the Eden Court

Life-long engagement with music and a truly eclectic taste (although prog-rock and metal will usually have me scrambling for the off button). If pushed, I would have to say the Velvet Underground are one of the most important band’s of all time. Although I consider myself first and foremost a photographer, as regards reviewing I guess I cut my teeth in the vibrant fanzine scene of the 80’s. Around the same time I started taking photographs and, to be brief, performance and photography were made for each other: perfect match.
