Culann, Bella 24 Interview

We catch up with PJ of Culann ahead of Belladrum 2024 and ask them a few questions.

What would be your FFO list?

Always been a tricky one for us to answer as there’s a lot of different influences in our band. FFO Scottish Alternative Rock covers it nicely I hope .

Tell us a little about how the band came to be and a story so far.

Culann have been together for 15 years now, two albums and an EP later were still enjoying writing & playing music together as much as we’ve ever done. It’s a real privilege to be in a band with your friends & have folk that are interested in your music.

As an act, how has 2024 treated you so far?

We had a sold out show in Glasgow earlier this year then it’s a busier second half of 2024 for us with an Edinburgh Show, Belladrum & Outwith Festival in Dunfermline.

You have three original songs to wow the Belladrum audience, which ones would they be and why?

I would personally chose three songs from our last EP ‘Songs of Saints & Reiver’s’ which was released in 2023. I think they capture the best of our sound & showcase the best of Culann.

Rovers / City Eternal / Saint Andrew.

Festivals are renowned for horrible clashes, which act on the Belladrum line-up would you least like to clash with and why?

Tony Hawks Pro Sound System – I want to be washed away in Nostalgia!

It’s your first time at Belladrum , what Is the draw to playing Belladrum?

Never been before so exited to experience it. I think the eclectic nature of the artists involved is great to see, it has something for everyone.

Given the Love theme, if you had to create a love playlist with only five songs, what would be on it?

Oaft, getting a bit sentimental:

Personal choices:

Rainy night in Soho – The Pogues

Beeswing – Christy Moore

Mountains – Biffy Clyro

Don’t worry baby – The Beach Boys

Play me something – Roddy Woomble

If you could travel back in time, which Belladrum would you like to revisit?

2016 had a great lineup, Madness closing out the festival would have been great to see!

In your act’s repertoire, what is the most romantic song you have?

Again, getting mushy here but a song from our last EP-  ‘Heart of the Sea’ is about my good lady

What’s on the horizon for you after Belladrum?

Looking forward to playing some more shows – Excited about Outwith Festival in Dunfermline & a Glasgow headline at Halloween

Culann perform at Seedlng stage, 2pm on Saturday and you can keep track of Culann here.
