Rhoehaisse cane to the attention of many after winning the John Preston young songwriter of the year award in conjunction with the Liam Colgan music fund last year. Another impressive performance at Woodstock 23 will be followed up by opening up the Free Range Acoustic stage on the Friday of Belladrum 2023. We caught up with her ahead of the gig.
You have ten words to describe your act, no more no less…
Folk pop singer songwriter with a Taylor Swift like twist.
As an act how has 2023 treated you so far?
So far I think 2023 has been really good! After winning the John Preston Young Songwriter of the Year award last year, it has given me lots of amazing opportunities to play at fantastic gigs this year, such as Woodzstock Festival in the Black Isle and The Big Balti Bash in Balintore. I have written so many new songs, and I hope people at Belladrum enjoy them.
You have three original songs to wow the Belladrum audience, which ones would they be and why?
I would probably choose ‘Half in Love’, ‘Karma’ and ‘August’, because they are all meaningful songs in their own way and they all bring across the idea that although love can be an amazing thing to have in your life, it’s not always the idea of a fairy-tale romance we think that it is when we are young.
Festivals are renowned for horrible clashes, which act on the Belladrum line-up would you least like to clash with and why?
I feel like because I’m a young musician, I wouldn’t clash with anybody and would only learn from other experienced artists! A bit like a sponge, soaking up tips and tricks from those around me.
What are your tips for coping with festival season?
Definitely drink plenty of water and basically enjoy yourself! :)
What Is the draw to playing Belladrum?
As a first timer at Belladrum, I think the draw to playing Belladrum is definitely the fact it allows local artists the chance to show off their songs and incredible talents to the amazing people who come to the festival.
Given the cartoon and comic theme of Belladrum 2023, which theme tune or song from animation would you cover given the opportunity, and how would you make it your own?
Hmm.. I’d probably say ‘Part of Your World’ from The Little Mermaid. I had this little children’s microphone when I was 3, that used to play the song for you to sing along with and I knew every lyric to the song (gosh, don’t think i’d know them now haha)
Which cartoon or animation would you have appear on stage with you and why?
I think I’d love it if Mr Bean came on stage, I know he doesn’t like to talk much but who knows maybe he has the best singing voice ever and he would want to sing along with me.
What’s on the horizon for you after Belladrum?
I have a few things up my sleeve but I am unable to disclose that much information. I guess watch this space! :) (or you can check out her Facebook and Tik Tok)
