We do love catching bands in their infancy, and The Demographic certainly fit that bill with band member hailing from local Academies. Having had a warm reception from their live debut at The Bandstand, Nairn, we thought it would be nice to resurrect our Who are You? feature for them.
Who are you ?
Were a 5 piece indie band from inverness aged 16-18 Our lead singer is William Scully, Lead guitarist: Malachy Mackintosh, Rhythm guitar: Callum Wilson, Bass guitar: Rory Brown, Drummer: Vincent Peteranna. We all met through our higher music class and became a band after performing together in a school concert back in 2022. However William and Malachy where in a three man band together beforehand.
What do you do ?
We make indie/indie rock music which is something we’ve all shared a common liking towards and have now released a song called ‘Be That Way’ a very clean and ambient indie song.
I’d say The Snuts, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Two Door Cinema Club are the bands we most relate our music
FFO?
Although our primary sound is indie rock were very experimental within the genre and write very different sounding songs each member of the band contributes their own individual sound and part to the songs we make. I’d say The Snuts, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Two Door Cinema Club are the bands we most relate our music to as most of our songs are similar to at least one of the three bands.
Your first gig was in March, in Nairn, it seemed to go down well, but how do you feel it went and what did you learn from it?
We absolutely loved the gig at Nairn and it was great to see so many people make their way out to see us. We learnt how to set ourselves up on stage and what we want our setup to look like. We gained useful experience and made a few necessary mistakes to learn from whilst still putting on a good show.
What has the response been to your debut single ‘Be that way’?
The response was very positive and although mostly friends and family we’ve had a lot of people listening to our song with over a thousand listens on spotify after a couple of weeks and a lot of positive feedback.
Where can we catch you ?
Our next gig is at the Market Bar, Inverness on July the 1st, and were available to listen to on Spotify (and feature on IGigs We Are Inverness playlist – Ed), Apple music and YouTube as the name The Demographic. Our song is also available as a sound on many apps such as Instagram and snapchat. We also have an Instagram @the_demographic21 and a TikTok @the1demographic.
Anything else?
We also have a young aspiring manager Billy Andrew who wants to work in the music industry and currently works on Hospital radio in Raigmore Hospital.
