We catch up with Maraan and the Wildcats ahead of their performance at Belladrum 2022.

You have ten words to describe your act, no more no less…
Glamourous dirty rock and roll fronted by a vampire tart.
As an act how how does it feel to be back post-COVID?
The band has only existed post-covid, but we all live for live music. We are all ecstatic to be performing again and to be able to go out and see other bands.
Given the myths and legends theme of Belladrum 2022, can you tell us a myth or legend of the band?
It is a myth that I am a vampire that has been barred three times from The Market Bar in Inverness. The truth is: I’ve only been barred twice.
Which legend (non-musical!) would you have appear on stage with you and what song would you play with them?
We would appear with the baobhan sith and perform our song “Your Soul Will Belong To Me”.
There have been a few musical legends play Belladrum over the years which performance would you most like the opportunity to see again?
This is the first Belladrum festival since I moved to the Highlands, but I would love to see The Buzzcocks again. I believe they played in 2012.
How are you preparing for your Belladrum performance, what are your plans after you have played?
We’ll be warming up by playing The Market Bar on 22nd July. After the festival we’ll be recording our debut album and we’ll be back in The Market on 12th August.
If your set only consisted of three songs and one extra cover, which ones would they be and why?
The three original songs would be “Don’t Tell Me You Don’t Love Me”, “Boris Johnson Lying Nazi Traitor” and “Men With Guns All Have A Tiny Penis”. The songs pretty much choose themselves, we write a new song at each rehearsal, but we’ve only ever had four rehearsals (although we’ve already played a dozen or so gigs).
The cover would be “Chaise Longue” by Wet Leg, because the audience always goes mental whenever we play our version. If we ever refused to play it… I would fear for our safety
And a wee bit of festival madness…
Who’d win a fight between Nessie and Godzilla?
Nessie would totally do that Godzilla slag.
You’re out for a few drinks, what other artist that you know, would turn it in to a legendary night?
Whenever I go out for drinks with one of The Wildcats, things tend to get out of control and weird shit tends to happen. Last Friday was particularly crazy
Is Nessie real?
Nessie is alive in the minds of people all over the World.
What would you rather fight, a unicorn the size of Nessie or 20 unicorn sized Nessies?
I am a lover, not a fighter. But if any mythical slag wants to try their luck, I’m well up for it.
What is your favourite urban legend?
There is an urban legend that I am a brilliant guitarist and a stunning musician. In fact I just fake it and ponce about like a tart. I can sing quite well though.
If you had to form a 4 piece band from legendary creatures what instrument would each play and why? Also what would you call the Mythical band?
The Inverness legend Dickie Bills on drums.
The Inverness legend Robin Abbot on bass.
The Inverness legend Ben Hesling on guitar.
And I, for I am indeed a mythical creature, would ponce about like a tart.
The band would be called Maraan And The Wildcats, and we would play The Market, Mad Hatters and Belladrum. Nothing could beat that.
You can see Maraan and the Wildcats at Belladrum 2022, performing at the Bella Bar stage stage at 10pm on the Saturday night. All things Belladrum can be found on our Belladrum Festival Page.
You can also find Maraan and the Wildcats in The Market Bar where they hang out quite a bit, and where they play at least once a month.
