You have ten words to describe your act, no more no less…
A melancholic, but uplifting amalgamation of sounds from bygone times.
As an act how how does it feel to be back post-COVID?
The Joshua Hotel was created as a result of the first lockdown. Generally speaking, it feels really liberating to be playing live for people though. Means more than it ever did before.
Given the myths and legends theme of Belladrum 2022, can you tell us a myth or legend of The Joshua Hotel?
Every member is called Joshua.
Which legend (non-musical!) would you have appear on stage with you and what song would you play with them?
Skeletor. Repetition Town.
There have been a few musical legends play Belladrum over the years which performance would you most like the opportunity to see again?
Shutter played the seedlings stage(?) at 1pm, Saturday, 2006. I was so buzzed after a 1l bottle of White Star and Matt dedicated a song to me(I think I literally asked him to do it). Anyway, they are all legends and I want see them to play Bella again.
How are you preparing for your Belladrum performance, what are your plans after you have played?
I like to watch performances of my favourite artists like Bowie, Talking Heads, Yves Tumor and Blur to get me riled up and get ideas and stuff. After we play I will just chill and catch some music.
If your set only consisted of three songs and one extra cover, which ones would they be and why?
Would be Somebody New, Repetition Town and I Don’t Want to Go out of our stuff then a cover of Deftones – Change(in the house of flies)
And a wee bit of festival madness…
Who’d win a fight between Nessie and Godzilla?
Nessie because Nessie and Loch Ness is a magical place. Nessie has the power of magick, Godzilla is just big.
You’re out for a few drinks, what other artist that you know, would turn it in to a legendary night?
Maraan and the wildcats. Groupie magnets!
Is Nessie real?
Don’t ask silly questions. Of course she is.
What would you rather fight, a unicorn the size of Nessie or 20 unicorn sized Nessies?
1 unicorn sized Nessie is more powerful and magical than any sized unicorn. A unicorn the size of Nessie. Don’t talk about Nessie’s size though – she is quite self conscious
What is your favourite urban legend?
Caley Park is built on an Indian burial ground.
If you had to form a 4 piece band from legendary creatures what instrument would each play and why? Also what would you call the Mythical band?
It would be a band of Succubi. The band would be called ‘Lilith and the Loch Ness Ladies’
