Fun Lovin Criminals head up new additions on the line-up for Tartan Heart Festival 2018.

Following on from the announcement of Primal Scream as the final headliner for Belladrum, a fantastic array of acts have been added to the billing for the festival in August.

In October ‘16 our reviewer noted at the Ironworks that the crowd were ‘praying it wouldn’t be another eight years before they return’ and pop-punk/rock act YOU ME AT SIX have answered their prayers as they are added to the Garden Stage line-up. Since forming in 2004 they have accumulated a list of incredible achievements including; playing London’s Ally Pally, Wembley Arena, and the O2; scoring two top five albums (2010’s Hold Me Down, 2011’s Sinners Never Sleep) and a Number One album (2014’s Cavalier Youth), along with taking 13 consecutive singles onto the Radio 1 A-list.

Munch on your ‘Scooby Snacks’ as Thursday night headliner Amy Macdonald is joined by FUN LOVIN CRIMINALS who are still, the world’s finest and only purveyors of cinematic hip hop, rock ‘n’ roll, blues-jazz, latino soul vibes. The planet’s best-loved “cousins from New York”, who, through the mid-late 90s, chronicled life in their native city while bending the global ear to the sonic possibilities of exuberant hip-hop gangster-rock merged with lounge music, funk, mariachi trumpets and ‘Bass-o-matic’ Barry White.

Producing modern country music with a British twist, twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy WARD THOMAS also join the Thursday night line-up and will be performing tracks from their first two albums including 2016’s no.1 ‘Cartwheels’ (the first UK country act the achieve a UK no.1 charting album).

And there’s more! The weekend has other great additions with English singer-songwriter BETH ORTON bringing her ‘folktronica’; the exhilarating YONAKA who give shows which are a biblical experience; Ivor Novello and Brit award nominee NERINA PALLOT; one of 2018’s ones to watch SEA GIRLS; fresh from supporting Ed Sheeran on his arena tour RYAN MCMULLAN; emerging London 5 piece PUMAROSA; Brand New Heavies founding member Jan Kincaid’s new soul funk band MF ROBOTS; Austin Texas based bluegrass band WHISKEY SHIVERS; the Highland’s own and Belladrum Records artist TAMZENE; Canada’s THE BURNING HELL; the beautifully spellbinding SIOBHAN WILSON; New Orleans style brass and percussion band BRASS GUMBO; the atmospheric and aurally comforting ADAM HOLMES & THE EMBERS; festival favourites TORRIDON;Gypsy folk from the Dublin suburbs with THE ESKIES; Pan European Avant-Garde outfit BARBARELLA BANG BANG;Alternative rock duo REWS; Aussie folk punk from THE RUMJACKS; Hailed as the new Coldplay they are DANCING ON TABLES; Outer Hebrides supergroup THE TUMBLING SOULS; Scotland’s MACFLOYD; Inverness’s LIONAL; Those four Highland brothers THE MACGILLS; Edinburgh soul funksters THE KATET PLAYS STEVIE WONDER; Billy Rowan is the high energy THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY; Alt folksters NOBLE JACKS; Inverness alternative rock from SILVER COAST;Perthshire country rock delivered by THE CARLOWAYS;Indie folk from Inverness with ERNEST RAMBLES; Dingwall based HIGHLAND VOICES CHOIR; and the talented young musicians of FEIS ROIS CEILIDH TRAIL

Chartered surveyor by day, music reviewer by night, and occasionally I get to use my camera. A strange mix, but one that I enjoy. A chance meeting in the queue for Bella in 2010 led to the opportunity to write for InvernessGigs; a far cry from the days of writing for a football fanzine back in the late 80s, early 90s. My interests lie between the mainstream, the emerging and the local. Increasingly I find that we have more than enough locally to entertain us to necessitate a trip south. I’m always happy to give a listen, whatever the genre. Inverness has a plethora of talent, all of which I am more than keen to write about. If it encourages just one person to make the effort to listen to some new music I’ll be happy. You can contact Frank direct via frankieboyfin@gmail.com
