The official Tooth & Claw launch, 25/8/2016.
Thursday saw the official launch of the newly renovated music venue at The Tooth & Claw. The changes to the venue formerly known as Upstairs at The Eagle were made possible thanks to the Tooth & Claw becoming the winners of the PRS for Music’s Music Makeover competition winning a £10,000 prize.
Music Makeover judge & PRS chairman, Guy Fletcher OBE, opened proceedings for the evening and pointing out that the venue had been the most northernly application of this years completion which had seen well over two hundred applicants. He also heaped praise on the venue saying that he had been impressed by what the venue had managed to do with the money aided by the advice that had supported it, which had come from world-renowned producer Steve Levine.
Following the formalities, it was Glasgow based Bossy Love that were the debut act on the stage. There is a vitality and freshness in the band with lead singer Amandah Wilkinson taking charge with an energetic performance that saw an occasional foray to the front of the audience. What comes next for the band is in the laps of the god, but for a venue wanting to champion the best in emerging music in Scotland, they are certainly one of the best.
Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, WHITE were unable to play, with that spot being taken by SAMA 2015 Best Acoustic nominee, Dr Wook, an appropriate choice given that he had played one of the most impressive nights of the venue in it’s previous guise.
The venue in itself is now miles away from the previous lounge bar / cafe feel that it previously had, with the additional, and obligatory, sound proofing being well tested. We have no doubt that finishing touches and fine tuning of the venue will be applied for the next while, although as it is it certainly sits as an upgrade to it’s previous guises.
Co-owner of the venue, Paulina Matuszak said: “We are overjoyed with the support that both PRS for Music and the local community have given us. We want The Tooth & Claw to become a staple of the Inverness music scene and with this prize, that dream is becoming a reality. We can’t wait to play host to the best of Inverness music!”
