While She Sleeps are a British metalcore band from Sheffield. Formed in 2006, the group consists of vocalist Lawrence Taylor, guitarists Sean Long and Mat Welsh, bassist Aaran Mackenzie and drummer Adam Savage.

They are currently signed to Search and Destroy Records in the UK, The End Records in the US and Shock Records in Australia.

They have released one mini-album, The North Stands for Nothing, in 2010, and one studio album, This Is the Six, on 13 August 2012. They received the Best British Newcomer award at the Kerrang! Awards in 2012.

The band’s second album Brainwashed is scheduled for release on 23 March 2015 which should give the Inverness fans plenty of time to get to know the album before their visit at the end of May.

If you’re unfamiliar with the band and you’re scratching your head wondering what defines a band as ‘metalcore’ then a quick look at Wikipedia explains all, describing the genre as, ‘…a broad fusion of extreme metal and hardcore punk. The name is an amalgam of the names of the two genres, distinguished by its emphasis on breakdowns which are slow, intense passages that are conducive to moshing’. Anything that is ‘conducive to moshing’ is a good thing in my book.

If that still doesn’t clarify matters then more simply put, While She Sleeps are loud, noisy and shouty interspersed with the odd quiet bit.

I've always loved music and spent my late teens and early twenties playing guitar in various bands on Lewis and Aberdeen. Other than playing in some truly terrifying pubs in Aberdeen not much came of it and life became focused on family and having a 'proper' job. Inverness Gigs is an outlet for me to quell my inner frustrated musician and the caliber of local acts has even inspired me to take my own music more seriously again. Who knows, one day I might venture back on stage under the fierce scrutiny of an Inverness Gigs reviewer! You can contact Toby direct at Toby@Igi.gs
