The Elephant Sessions are a trad super group in their early twenties, all very impressive musicians. This 5 piece from the Highlands and the rest of the UK launched their debut album (to purchase, see below) on Saturday night at Mad Hatters in Inverness- “The Elusive Highland Beauty” played in full to a packed middle floor of Hootananny.

This piece may be a little lacking in detail as I was mixing the show, so was without pad and quill.

From the soundcheck, I was amazed by the size of their sound, fiddle, mandolin and guitars, joined by a very dynamic drum kit and bass- it was unlike any traditional music I’d ever heard before. The album was recorded back in January and has been very much worth the wait.

I spoke to their drummer Greg, a Dingwall man about their excitement around the album. “It’s been a long journey but we are delighted to be able to let everyone hear what we’ve been up to. We can’t wait to take it on tour.” I asked him how he thought the launch went. “Great. The venue was perfect for us, small and sweaty – the way we like it. It was great to able to sell some CDs, we were chuffed.”

During the show the band also captured some video clips to use for an upcoming single, so keep an eye out for that and if you get the chance check out their album.
