In less than two weeks Brew at the Bog 2014 will be upon us..
The fledgling festival has blossomed from selling 300 tickets in its first year to announcing that Brew at the Bog 2014 had sold their 1400th ticket for this year’s event at the time of writing. With views over towards Ben Wyvis and the Moray Firth yet still handy for main road access, there are not many festivals that can claim a better location or panorama.
Last year was certainly one of the festival highlights and any event that manages to sell out of beer, not once, but twice in a day only goes to prove how popular they’ve become in such a short space of time. Not forgetting that sponsor Brewdog make decidedly moreish beer! A certain reviewers sore head the next day would certainly testify to that (still managed a decent review -Ed).
This year they’ve upped the ante again and along with an impressive lineup they’ve added a Gin bar, Prosecco and Tapas from Little Italy, Street Food and a Bottle shop.
For the early birds and campers, food and music will be available in Bogbain on Friday night and King Creosote will open the festival proper on Saturday with a 30-minute audio visual set.
The rest of the lineup is singularly impressive and as always local acts are represented. Searching for Donkeys, Lionel, The Elephant Sessions and James Mackenzie’s new project Verona all feature. From the Islands we have Miss Irene Rosie, a Radio 2 Young Folk Musician semi-finalist from Lewis and at the other end of the musical spectrum The Broken Ravens will undoubtedly do some hefty damage to festival-goers eardrums!
Prides make a very welcome return to the festival after their impressive showing last year . Since then it’s been a busy year for the band with a US tour and a slot at SXSW under their belts. And of course there was ‘that’ cover of ROAR by Katy Perry. Fellow returnees include Shambles Miller who’s wry and witty look on life always makes for a good live set, anyone who has seen him at the Market Bar will testify to that. Miaoux Miaoux closed the barn last year with a storming set and we’ve been promised something special again.
Other picks for the weekend include, Roman Nose a TechElectro act from Glasgow who have to be seen and heard to be believed. Casual Sex are on the rise (‘scuse me) and likened to have a similar sound to Franz Ferdinand but with the attitude of Mark E Smith. Roddy Woomble will sooth your troubles away, his solo material is a marked contrast to his Idlewild work with gently crafted folk songs that’ll be perfect for a Saturday afternoon in the sun. We’ve been promised a surprise act on the Barn Stages at 4.30pm but so far the organisers are being tight lipped as to who that might be (see who Lionel think it might be ).
One of the bands most recently announced Admiral Fallow have two sublime albums under their belts, and they’re a perfect addition to Brew at the Bog 2014.
