Rockness 2013 announces further acts Lianne La Havas, Zebra Katz, Dog is Dead, Reverend and the Makers and Rolando for the Dores Festival.
Topping the announcement this time around is Londoner Lianne La Havas, The Telegraph described her as having a combination of “old-fashioned melody, youthful vulnerability and sweet, smoky vocals”.Her debut album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’ was the iTunes Album of the Year and joins the a stellar line-up of singer songwriters at Rockness in 2013.
Fresh from his SXSW appearance Zebra Katz is the alter ego of Ojay Morgan, quoting influences from Jean-Michel Basquiat to Crystal Waters. His EP was described as having “the pulsing bassline and deliciously menacing vocals [which] kick in on this year’s most addictive underground rap release”. Dog is Dead returns to Inverness after a couple of visits in 2012 including Belladrum, the band, our reviewer identified, are “ Noted for tight harmonies, these guys would put any boy band to shame offering as tight and as focussed a sound as you will hear anywhere” (See the full Dog is Dead review).
Another band who is returning to the area is Sheffield’s Reverend and the Makers hopefully there trip will not end as their last visit, with a well publicised visit from the Northern Constabulary (for another perspective read an interview with John McClure’s brother). Bursting on to the scene in the wake of Shefield’s Arctic Monkeys with the single “ Heavyweight Champion of the World” they will no doubt have the Rockness crowd chanting along “Should have been a contender”.
Also being added to the bill, and SOMA line-up, is Detroit legend Rolando who has earned plaudits for his speedy turntable proficiency; skilfully meandering from funky house, gut vibrating electro, the great techno classics and nu soulful melodies.
Tickets are available via www.Rockness.co.uk and over the counter at Ironworks, Cafferys and Attic (remember NO additional fees).
