Rachel releases Robert Burns ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ on Friday 25th January to raise funds for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland.
Highland’s own Rachel Sermanni has had a great year – touring all over Europe and releasing her critically acclaimed debut album “Under Mountains”. It is easy to forget that Rachel is still a young woman of only twenty years old. Hailing from Carrbridge, she must struggle to call anywhere home given the amount of time she spends living out of suitcases. As I write, Rachel is spending November on another tour of Germany and Holland. This follows a summer of music festivals and a UK tour over September and October. Phew. There is no doubt that this girl has a work ethic.
Often playing solo, Rachel’s voice has a haunting quality that is quite captivating and brings to life the whimsical and poetic nature of her songs. Having said that, perhaps it is leading a band that Rachel truly shines and the arrangements are given space to breathe.
Rachel’s band includes fiddle, piano and drums, all friends from her studies in Glasgow and it is the bigger festival slots that the band has the opportunity to enchant and bewitch audiences. A highlight for the writer was last year’s set at Loopallu and the after show gig with the Staves.
2013 starts with the release of an acoustic version of Robert Burns ‘Ae Fond Kiss’.All profits from the sale of the CD are going to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland.
