Rab Hamill, aka Dj Raboon and part of the Highland Junglists crew, is one of those guys that you like to have around, keen to promote the music scene and do everything he can to ensure that the word is out. So we were really pleased when Rab wanted to share his perspective of 2011.

What’s your involvement in the music scene?

Drum n Bass / Jungle Dj

How has 2011 been for you musically?

Its been a great year having done events at the Ironworks , Cake and Belladrum again as well as the Soundhaus in Glasgow amongst others . We’ve expanded to 5 DJs as well with the addition of DJ’s Essay and ‘I am Kojak’ which allows us to provide a more old skool jungle vibe and filthy heavy dubstep bass respectively .

What was the best local act this year. and why?

Polymath , wicked DJ/producer . Not in our genres but very good at his techno .

What was the best non-local act you have seen this year?

Close run thing this but Beardyman and the Easy Star Allstars were exceptional .

What was your favourite music experience this year?

Supporting Goldie at the Ironworks . To meet and be a part of the same night as someone who’s done so much for the DnB scene globally was an experience nothing short of honourable .

What do you want from Santa?

To play at Rock Ness 2012!!!

What’s your hopes for the music scene in 2012?

To continue to see underground music thrive globally , i’d just like to mention here there’s an outstanding scene on the other side of the planet in New Zealand with excellent acts who are inspirational to say the least .

What are your plans for 2012?

We’re going to be travelling the UK in all directions as well as working in partnership with UpfrontUk DnB promotions . There’s going to be a 26 month tour of Britain where they will be giving the best of the breakthrough DJs in the DnB circuit the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names going at a massive event at the end of the tour . Oh and we’ll be doing some gigs in Holland as well as moving into production , exciting and busy times ahead indeed !!!

Thanks to Rab for his time.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
