Hit the floor running

A review of Roman Nose at the Seedlings Stage , Belladrum, 2nd of August Belladrum.

Roman Nose at Belladrum 2013

Described as ‘Black Techno’ , with the stated intention of ‘fucking shit up’ Roman Nose were always going to be a fairly uncompromising offer. Wandering on to stage in what looked like wrestling masks and with little fanfare they launched into a set of some of the most full on techno and electronica I’ve heard in some time.

A live drummer is flanked by members of the group playing synths who barraged us with pulsating techno beats. There was no banter or chat from the band, instead they concentrated on the music. The punters that were in the Seedlings tent were treated to what may well be one of the performances of the weekend in that area of Bella, it’s just a shame there weren’t more to see it.

The only downside was that I’d say that was too early for a band of this nature and they’d have been better suited to a later slot, definitely one for a dark and dingy venue rather than the (at the time) brightly sunlit Seedlings stage. Another one to watch I think.

I've always loved music and spent my late teens and early twenties playing guitar in various bands on Lewis and Aberdeen. Other than playing in some truly terrifying pubs in Aberdeen not much came of it and life became focused on family and having a 'proper' job. Inverness Gigs is an outlet for me to quell my inner frustrated musician and the caliber of local acts has even inspired me to take my own music more seriously again. Who knows, one day I might venture back on stage under the fierce scrutiny of an Inverness Gigs reviewer! You can contact Toby direct at Toby@Igi.gs
