Iodynes – Lux EP, Review.

Iodynes, LUX EP; Highland alt-rock outfit step forward with a deeper, more ambitious sound 4/5

LUX opens with “All Will Be Lost”, a Bannerman-led track that sets the emotional chemistry of the whole EP. The line “all will be lost, but let’s be lost together” should risk sounding twee, yet it avoids that completely. The delivery is steady rather than sentimental, and the arrangement gives it a weight that keeps the emotion grounded. There’s a quiet complexity running through the track too. High production detail, a subtle sample woven into the background, and a layered vocal blend give it an atmosphere that keeps expanding the more you sit with it.

The rest of the EP follows that same balance of vulnerability and resolve. “Made to Be Broken” pushes into the idea that some fractures are necessary. “In Your Eyes” steadies itself in connection and clarity. “Know You’re Not Alone” closes everything with a sense of shared resilience. Across all four tracks, Marc Davidson and Andrew Bannerman’s vocals blur so tightly that people often can’t tell who is singing at any moment, and the harmonies hit with real force.

Recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Iain MacLaughlin at IMOUT Studios, Lux took shape over several weeks in mid-2025, giving the band room to elevate each part. It’s also the first release with drummer Adrian Treacher, whose experience has added a calm but punchy backbone.

Drawing from influences like Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters, Iodynes have produced an EP that deals with love, loss and acceptance without slipping into cliché. LUX landed on all major streaming platforms on the 27th of February.

LUX proves that Iodynes can push themselves without losing the heart that built their sound in the first place.
