Space Van are the latest band to announce a show at Upstairs Inverness as part of Upstairs Live the monthly showcase on the first Saturday of the month. Guest contributor DJ X caught up with the guys to see what we can expect.
Q, The band have recently been playing further afield in the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh, how have those shows been going?
Mark: We have been enjoying playing new places and really honing our live show and are excited to bring the set to Inverness and Aberdeen in May.
Q, Recently we have seen the description “Van Halen jamming with Audioslave” being used to describe the band, how accurate do you feel this is?
Mark: I grew with Eddie Van Halen as my guitar hero and its safe to say that I am not afraid of cutting a solo! to hear that description is a huge honour but a high bar for us to aim for.
Iain: Rhythm wise it’s fair to say that Steve and I are very musically influenced by Tim and Brad from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave specifically in regard to keeping the groove solid, so we were pleased to see that description being used for Space Van.
Q, With the gig happening on Saturday May 4th can we expect any May the 4th be with you shenanigans?
Mark: You can always expect shenanigans when it comes to Space Van!
Iain: We are in the process of tying up a few surprises that we think are going to add to the event, if they all come together and its looking positive it should be a pretty cool event.
Q, The show at Upstairs is going to be the bands only Inverness show for 2024, what is the reason for this?
Iain: We are juggling this band with the commitments of life such as family, work, studies etc whilst taking bookings that will see us play across the UK this year so we made a decision to book 1 hometown gig and put all our effort into making it a night to remember.
Mark: You can expect an all out performance from us, if you love rock music then grab your tickets now and May the Van be with you.
