Ahead of their gig at Monsterfest 2021, Russian Dollz answers a few questions for IGigs.
Festivals are a great opportunity to catch acts that are new to them. What should people expect from your set if they have not seen you before?
Russian Dollz hopes to bring a new original sound to the audience. As we all have different influences and tastes, our songs have become an energetic fusion of rock, blues, country and old skool heavy metal. It’s hard to compare us to other acts; obviously rock music is our foundation.
How does it feel to be back playing again? What songs are you looking forward to performing in front of an audience?
We have recently played our first live gig at mad hatters and we couldn’t have wished for a better start. The place was packed with many people dancing and even singing our hook lines, even though they had never heard them before. This was a great buzz and we can’t wait to do it all again. As far as our songs go we all enjoy playing Boyz 2 Kings, I’ve Gotta Feel It and Dance With The Devil.
Monsterfest is a showcase of rock and its many facets. How do you feel about the current rock scene?
Good and bad really. There are some great bands out there, young and old but sadly just not enough of them in our opinion, we can only wish for a 70’s revival because they truly knew how to rock ‘n’ roll.
Monsterfest is jam-packed with talent. If you could steal one song from other bands performing at event, which would it be?
For JD it would have to be ‘my baby is a headf*ck’ by the wildhearts or any other track from the ‘earth vs’ album, he’s loved it since he was a teenager.
Given that the Nessie is already taken, which monster would you take as your band’s mascot and why?
Sammy the lab, aka Mr Rock ‘N’ Roll. He may not be a monster although he has plenty of attitude and he never misses band practice. He is our loyal mascot and loves to rock.

Anything else?
Russian Dollz would like to say how grateful we are to be given this opportunity to play Monsterfest 2021 and to have the privilege of sharing the stage with some big rock names. We are all looking forward to making our mark on this awesome event.
