The Hootananny Belladrum Festival Potting Shed Stage line-up for Tartan Heart Festival
We have seen the majority of line-up announced for the festival (catch it here), it’s now the turn of the smaller stages, up next it’s The Potting Shed;
This year’s sees a very international stage with artists traveling from over the pond! Rob Ellen (stage curator) has had the privilege of traveling far and a field to be able to bring us the likes of Tumbledown House a vintage sounding speakeasy band based in San Francisco. Visiting Bella for the first time this year is Jess Wayne a contemporary folk singer from California with charismatic tunes.
“We are delighted to be back home at Belladrum after visiting and working on so many festivals across Europe and Stateside”
Traveling from New Mexico The Cowboy Way they are Trio are two-time International Western Music Association best live band winners! Teresa Storch and Peter lacis and Whitherward are a trio of musicians Rob came across last year in Denver they hope to recreate the lovely show they put on there for you here at Bella.
Heading up the Texas Song writing input always a big part of the Potting Shed story; this year the stage will introduce Houston folk music pillar Brian Kalinec and with a return visit from Libby Koch the Texan feel will be coming across well. This brings us to Patterson Barrett multi-instrumentalist songster, producer and musical director/ who was musical director collaborator and co-produced the live video remake of Libby’s ‘Redemption’ album that helped launched her career.
It will be good to see Carrington MacDuffie again having seen her play at Velocity Cafe acoustic night earlier last year. Brigid Kaelin style consists alternative country playing the banjo and accordion, her song “The Jester” inspired by her first time on stage with her keyboard hero, Steve Nieve who played with Elvis Costello & the Imposters. While Rob was on his travels he met his traveling companion Ruth Purves Smith a well-travelled country singer with the like of her songs ‘Ride Around’ and ‘Here Comes That Train’.
The stage its self although has a strong state’s influence it also has a Scottish one and one with local names to boot as well as some returning favourites! For our further a field Scottish contingent we have the likes of Cow Cow Boogie with some Perth-shire cowboy swing.
Returning from the South is the Lynsey Doland Band and to cover the East coast we have Good Guy Hank and Kinnaber Junction also The Lorelie will be headlining the stage on Friday Night. Another great band from that direction will be alternative rock band Edgar Road you will want to see these guys (read our review of our favourite Edgar Road gig) Back by popular demand its Trident the Auld Jock Metal band to really give the stage a shake up!
Now the news you have been waiting for the locals! with this come some very exiting news with the reforming of The Whiskys bringing back their unique alternative folk rock. In addition there is the might of Stetsonhead the Inverness based country trash band and if you feel like drivin’ in a Cadillac and have a rare old time while trying to keep your mad hat on then there is Dougie Burns and the Cadillac’s. While the stage will also bring you to the talents of Hamish Robert with his classical style guitar he is also a well know busker about town. All the way from over the border we have the berserk folk music of Matt Anderson THE VYKYING making his Bella début.
Next to the Potting Shed Stage there is the Moose Stage with it’s hopping spots to entertain you between the potting shed acts it is not to be understated and can pull a nice wee crowd of its own. Some of the highlights will be Sophie Bonadea who has not that long ago played at The Porch Sessions.
There has also returning from making a name from himself on the London acoustic seen is Mal MacWatt. The folk singer song writer Calum Jones is not to be missed. It will also be great to see Emma Mitchell well known local singer/guitarist who fronts Mothers Ruin. Singer songwriter Mark Forbes will also be making an appearance accompanied by Ben Hesling from the likes of Spring Break and Ashley and the Cosmonauts.
The Potting Shed stage would not be the same if it wasn’t for its shenanigans, they are still there with it’s front man the host Fash Stewart with his comedic compare skills. They will be joined by like of the Slim Panatelas, Darren Poyzer & Pig Man as well as The Potting Shed Stage All-Star House Band giving us the usual entertainment you would expect!
