We ask wojtek the bear a few question ahead of their gig at XpoNorth in June.
DESCRIPTION
Who are you and what do you do?
Hello! I’m Tam and I play guitar and sing in wojtek the bear
We are Tino – drums, Paul – bass & vocals and Chuck – guitar & vocals
We’re an indie-pop 4 piece from Glasgow who’ve been featured by Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music, been single of the week on BBC Radio Scotland and have recently been described by the following people in the following way:
“both delicately pretty and staggeringly imposing” – Louder than War
“a wonderful record that soars through emotions” – Scottish Sun
“wistful melancholy and shimmering pop melodies” – Tenement TV
We released our debut album, “a talent for being unreasonable” on Scottish Fiction records at the end of May and are currently on tour in support of the release.
There is so many acts and other things happening at XpoNorth, what makes your band stand out ?
We write indie pop songs for people with short attention spans, we don’t have a song over 3 minutes so even if you think the song we’re playing is shite at least you won’t have to wait long for the next one!
Which other acts are you hoping to catch at Xpo ?
We’re really looking forward to seeing Annie Booth & Acrylic. We really like how they dress and full disclosure – Annie sings on our album so we owe her more than a few drinks by way of payment!
For the band, what has give you the greatest sense of achievement so far in your career?
Finally releasing the album out into the world last month felt like a proper achievement for us as it was around a year in the making. We’ve also just finished the first run of dates for touring the album and it was amazing to see how people are reacting to the new songs at the shows, hearing how much they’re enjoying the album is a proper buzz!
What’s on the horizon?
Xpo aside we’ll be playing at some other great festivals across the summer and we’re also heading down to Newcastle & Leeds in July to play our first gigs in England. After that we’ll be heading straight back into the studio to start recording the new songs we’ve been working on.
Where can we catch you ?
We’re headlining the BBC Scotland RAPAL stage on Thursday 28th June at 11pm at Ironworks.
We are also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
