Belladrum has a very good habit of picking up some top notch headliners and this year’s final named Garden Stage headline act is no exception: The Pretenders!

Chrissie Hynde and the band through its various incarnations have had continued chart success from the day ‘Brass In Pocket’ hit number one in January 1980 and brought them to worldwide attention. The hits continued throughout the eighties including ‘I Go To Sleep’, ‘Back On The Chain Gang’, ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ and ‘2000 Miles’. Yes, they travelled further than the Proclaimers!
They were never far away in the nineties with the likes of ‘I’ll Stand By You’ and ‘Human’ making chart impressions. The Pretenders returned in 2016 with the release of ‘Alone’ the first album release in eight years and the band’s tenth studio album in total. Released to critical acclaim it was an album which Q Magazine said ‘Chrissie Hynde still answers to no one and it’s a glorious sound.’ And Rolling Stone proclaims ‘At 65, she’s still mouthing off over brass-knuckled rock & roll, flexing command and carnality with no apology.’
A worthy headliner with outstanding pedigree and a very worthwhile way to round off Friday night at Bella.
In April 1986 Chrissie Hyde gave an interview to ‘Interview’ where she said ’For my 21st birthday, I think my mother wanted to give me a watch, or something, you know, some kind of traditional thing. And I said, “Well, if you’re going to buy me something, there’s a Gibson Melody Maker guitar advertised in the paper for 60 dollars. Do you think I could have that?” And I think that she was very disappointed that at 21 I was still messing around with that sort of thing. She didn’t understand what it was all about. But now she understands it, and likes it.’
Chrissie knew where she was at, and still does. Will you on the Bella Friday?
Previously announced acts for Belladrum 2017 include Franz Ferdinand, KT Tunstall and more, but most recently the likes of Feeder, Birdy , First Aid Kit and more have been announced.
