Jamie and Shoony (actually a four piece featuring two Jamies, a Matt and of course a Shoony) have been brandishing their urban indie punk tunes for coming on five years. For the gig, the Edinburgh based quartet had travelled up to Inverness following a slot at Aberdeen the night before.
Tonight, Jamie and Shoony joined the brilliant psychedelic 3 piece Spring Break and invited us to have “a real good time” in Mad Hatters and we certainly did. The performance was full of energy from start to finish.
Enigmatic front man Jamie had everyone up dancing as he joined them on the dance floor. Their music is classed as urban indie punk but appeals to a very wide audience. At one point they had everyone crouched on the floor erupting into a jump, a favourite of their home Edinburgh crowd. I’ve rarely seen a band with such energy and enthusiasm for their music and the crowd were soon caught up in it.
At the start of the gig the four piece told me they were going to “smash it” and they certainly did that. They are a positive force to be reckoned with as part of the Yellow Movement. This is the third time I’ve seen Jamie and Shoony in the Highlands and I’m looking forward to many more times.
Onwards and upwards for the boys with a busy Summer promised for 2017, including already announced gigs at Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, The Kelburn Garden Party and crossing the border to play Blackthorn .
