RURA to play Eden Court in May.

Scottish Folk Promotions proudly present RURA the winners of Live Act of the Year at the 2015 Scots Trad Music Awards who will be performing two shows in the Highlands in May. Firstly, on Friday May 13th when they play Eden Court’s One Touch Theatre in Inverness and then Ullapool Village Hall on Saturday May 14th.

With their second album, 2015’s Despite the Darkir?t=wwwinvernessg 21&l=as2&o=2&a=B00VEC7XXA - Eden Court to Host Scottish Trad Winners, accompanied by extensive UK and international touring, RURA have well and truly reinforced their reputation as one of Scotland’s most powerful folk-based bands. Their exquisitely rugged, yet refined blend of fiddle, highland pipes, voice, flute, bodhran and guitar has proven a resounding hit across the board.

The five-piece’s fire first ignited in 2010, as award-winners at Glasgow’s world-renowned Celtic Connections festival, where they have now appeared on a remarkable seven consecutive occasions. Since then, Steven Blake, Adam Brown, David Foley, Adam Holmes and Jack Smedley’s powerful instrumentals and haunting songcraft has been a highlight of many of the world’s leading folk festivals – including Cambridge, Tønder, Winnipeg, HebCelt and Shetland, amongst countless others.

For those in the know one name who may ring bells is Adam Holmes of the band who is no stranger to the Highlands having performed at Hootananny and Brew at the Bog as part of Adam Holmes and The Embers.

They are undeniably one of Scotland’s most sought after, universally appealing acts. One listen – live or recorded – and it’s easy to see why. In the words of Songlines “RURA are one of the most exciting bands on the Scottish folk scene”. Don’t take their word for it, find out for yourself.

Seat prices are £14.00 are available online now.

Chartered surveyor by day, music reviewer by night, and occasionally I get to use my camera. A strange mix, but one that I enjoy. A chance meeting in the queue for Bella in 2010 led to the opportunity to write for InvernessGigs; a far cry from the days of writing for a football fanzine back in the late 80s, early 90s. My interests lie between the mainstream, the emerging and the local. Increasingly I find that we have more than enough locally to entertain us to necessitate a trip south. I’m always happy to give a listen, whatever the genre. Inverness has a plethora of talent, all of which I am more than keen to write about. If it encourages just one person to make the effort to listen to some new music I’ll be happy. You can contact Frank direct via frankieboyfin@gmail.com
