We look at the eclectic entertainment on offer in Inverness for New Year’s Eve 2015/16.
Billy Vaughn once said “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves,” whatever your reasons for staying up to the bells we look at the five best gigs to entertain you along the way. So in no particular order;
Mir at the Market
Described by our reviewer as “honest to goodness authentic rock ‘n roll ‘n ‘blues” back in these here parts. Blues maybe, but nobody leaves a MIR gig without a huge smile and feeling great about life the universe and everything.” It’s a very rare Hogmanay opening for the pub, so grab the tickets while you can.
Tickets available via the Market Bar priced £7
Hootananny Hogmanay Extravaganza
Getting the best of both worlds at Hoots, mixing contemporary with traditional music on the two floors. At Hoots there will be Scottish Traditional music from Hoodja, when asked about their popularity (albeit way back in 2011) they explained that “the upbeat nature of the style of music we play has a lot to do with it, the blend of modern and traditional music is always appealing”. They will be joined by Nelson’s Tonic.
Upstairs at Mad Hatters, Spring Break and friends will be ruling the roost. The night will be curated by them and it will feature an acoustic set from Ben & Emily during the night as well as a Butterscotch DJ set. More acts to be announced.
Tickets available online or directly at Hootananny.
Rhythmnreel’s Hogmanay Bash
It’s perhaps unsurprising that Ironworks snapped up Rhythmnreel to play at Hogmanay 2016 after the success of last year’s celebrations. Led by Jim Kennedy, the band know how to lead a party, drawing from Celtic rock to traditional ceilidh tunes, via a Paolo Nutini or Rod Stewart cover or two or three…
Vogue’s Hogmanay NYE with Mark Archer
The town’s newest night club plays host to Mark Archer, one half of 1990′s British rave duo Altern-8 who will be joined by a clutch of local DJ’s charged with keeping dance alive in the Highland capital as we cross from 2015 to 2016 (alottarhythmman, Ally Ridgers, Johnny Wilson and Alan Grant).
Red Hot Highland Fling 2015/16
Ok let’s get this straight standing in the middle of park in Winter in Inverness is never (ever) going to be “Red Hot”, but the organisers are always keen to guarantee a bit of a fling. Charged with warming up proceedings this year are Capercaillie, Scottish Trad Music Live Band of the Year Award Breabach and Skerryvore
The party starts at ,Northern Meeting Park, 2030, wrap up warmer, infact warmer than that.
