Special fundraiser for Macmillan Highland & The Cancer General Fund sees a selection of local bands reform for one-off December gig.
The Back for Good gig was the brainchild of Inverness’ Michelle Campbell, who has been undergoing treatment for a rare form of ovarian cancer, following discussion with old school mates and members of Jetstar. Other bands were approached to see if they were interested in reforming for the charity gig, with the result being a collection of some of the great and the good of yester-year from the local music scene.Playing the gig will be;
Lymerick Smith,are borne of the Railway Club era (ask your parents;)), feature Woodentooth members Rory Baldwin and Pete Nairne in addition to Rod Urquhart, Ryan McKay and Steve Kelly (of recent ‘Inversneckie‘ fame). Last played in the area over ten years ago.
It was 2010 when The Lush Rollers last played, on that occasion it was Belladrum that hosted the emotional reunion. Bassist Robin Abbot on the experience of playing that gig said “The band had been through quite a lot and it was just nice to get together after so long a time. That was pretty special for me.”
In the decade of their existence the Alt country combo earned the title of “Highland Treasure” by No Depression and have built together an impressive CV including tours of America, Europe and the UK as well as TV appearances and two albums.
Findo Gask‘s existence may have been short lasting (2003-2005) but in that time their progressive scream stylings gained them support slots with Biffy Clyro and InMe.
Jetstar, are the punk-pop trio formed by brothers Ali & Dougie Brown and joined by Gylen Boardman. With a retro bio that brought a smile to our face (check the full article out) they garnered a strong audience both locally and throughout the country, subsequently were the first Inverness band to play T in the Park via T-Break. Also on the bill are the Highland’s no.1 party band The Mystic Shoes will be keeping the party going into the small hours along with a DJ set from Netsounds. A special guest, to be announced nearer the time, will be assisting in the DJing responsibilities.
Michelle Campbell said of the event; ‘I am really delighted that so many fantastic Inverness bands have agreed to reform in order to raise money for Macmillan and the Inverness Cancer General Fund for Raigmore, who have provided such an incredible amount of support to myself, family and friends. The line-up is looking amazing and will it will be great to see so many great bands back together for the night’.
