BLOODLINES – Love The Taste EP. A review.

It is very easy and quick to catch the Scottishness of Bloodlines once you wrap your ears round the opening track ‘Love the Taste’. The twang in the vocal along with dirty guitars shows a band that come from a place not too far from Twin Atlantic and Biffy Clyro.

The ‘quiet’ section towards the end of the song although it builds to a great crescendo maybe lasts a bit too long and could get to its destination a bit quicker although it would work well in a live situation.

‘Stop Me’ has very strong vocal and guitar tones and dynamics that would not look out of place in early Biffy albums. Like most tracks on this EP, it’s an emotional rollercoaster.

‘Polarbear’ and ‘We Are Anonymous’ trips along but don’t have the same depth of the first two tracks or the epic finale of closing track ‘Cathedral’ which includes a video shot in the beautiful venue of Oran Mor in Glasgow.

‘Cathedral’ brings down the curtain with dramatic fashion on an EP that aims for atmosphere as opposed to commercial hooks. Some of the tracks on this EP would not be out of place on a soundtrack for the likes of ‘Twin Peaks’ or ‘Gotham’.

You can catch Bloodlines at XpoNorth at The Market Bar, 945pm on the 10th of June, 2015.
