Formed in the summer of 2004 by enthusiasts of big band swing and jazz music Highland Swing is a community band made up of all ages with a range of experience, all with the aim of enjoying the music and playing.

Saturday will see a get together of present and former members as well as friends of the band and representatives from organisations and charities the band has been happy to play for in the past.  On the bill will be big band standards from the likes of Glen Miller and Duke Ellington, some classic vocal numbers and on the jazzier side Miles Davis, there’ll even be space for dancing.

So if you like the sound of this, would like to hear the band or think you might have an event that Highland Swing could provide the music for why not come along and hear Highland Swing in action at the Recreation Hall, Raigmore Hospital 7:30pm onwards.

Chartered surveyor by day, music reviewer by night, and occasionally I get to use my camera. A strange mix, but one that I enjoy. A chance meeting in the queue for Bella in 2010 led to the opportunity to write for InvernessGigs; a far cry from the days of writing for a football fanzine back in the late 80s, early 90s. My interests lie between the mainstream, the emerging and the local. Increasingly I find that we have more than enough locally to entertain us to necessitate a trip south. I’m always happy to give a listen, whatever the genre. Inverness has a plethora of talent, all of which I am more than keen to write about. If it encourages just one person to make the effort to listen to some new music I’ll be happy. You can contact Frank direct via frankieboyfin@gmail.com
