Inverness Gigs , alongside Strathpeffer Pavilion and community focused social enterprise Dingwall Events , are really proud to bring you Yule Gig at the Pavilion in December.

MIR 7 199x300 - Yule Gig to warm up the Pavilion
“They (MIR) have a capacity to fuse not just healthy measures of rock ‘n’ roll, country, and a dash of blues, but that ability to enjoy a gig as much as their audience. “

Following on from the success of the Showcase at the Pavilion last year which saw Anderson, McGinty, Webster and Ward, Three Blind Wolves, Donald Macdonald and the Islands and Dr Wook play, Yule Gig promises some of the hottest local acts from the Ross-Shire area.

The bill includes Invergordon’s MIR , purveyors of “honest to goodness authentic rock ‘n roll ‘n ‘blues”. At Belladrum 2014 our reviewer enthused “nobody leaves a MIR gig without a huge smile and feeling great about life the universe and everything”.

Autumn Sun have been collecting an impressive array of festival appearances including Belladrum, North Hop and Jocktoberfest this year. A band of contrasts, blending folk and hip hop together in a mix that perhaps shouldn’t work, Autumn Sun have earned plaudits for their fresh approach, whilst a little birdy has told us that Yule Gig will see them expand their line-up a little.

Indie Punk of The Ragazzi who clearly note influences from 70’s punk to ska and modern day guitar bands including the likes of The Vaccines. The band , in an interview last year, noted a clear ethos; “lads playing honest music about everyday experiences”. They will no doubt bring their enthusiasm and pop punk tunes to the event.

Local singer Alice Bentley since her return to Dingwall this year, after some time away in Mexico, has managed a clutch of performances including supporting Ryan Keen and a Belladrum slot. At one of her biggest gigs, supporting Fatherson in 2013, our reviewer noted “she charmed everyone with her incredibly honest and mature lyrics, and fun personality”.

Alice will be joined by Strathpeffer based Jake Cameron whose array of covers on Soundcloud show much promise, he is currently recording material, Yule Gig will provide him an ideal opportunity to showcase his talent. Sean Stewart will complete the trio of young new sing songwriters to play the event.

Completing the bill will be Rory Hutcheson and Robin Johnston, former members of legendary Black Isle band The Rites, who we are delighted to have playing a special one off acoustic set. The Rites who tn their day earned the title of being one of the “Highlands leading unsigned bandslast played a headline set in the Pavilion in 2005 to a packed out crowd.

Programme and Development Manager for Strathpeffer Pavilion, Sian Jamieson commented “It’s been a big year for the Pavilion – celebrating it’s 10th anniversary; and what better way to finish the year off with a night of home-grown musical talent.

We’re delighted to be working with Inverness Gigs and Dingwall Events; who both have their fingers right on the pulse of the live music scene in the Highlands. Yule Gig is an exciting new event for Ross-Shire and the Pavilion, with seven amazing bands on two stages all for a tenner, it’ll be a great way to really kick start the Yule Time season!”

Tickets for the event to be held on the 13th of December, 2014 are available online or via the venue direct. You can keep up to date with the event through it’s Facebook page.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
