Sharon Corr at The Iron Works Sept 14th 2014. A review.
Intimate, candlelit tables set a cabaret atmosphere with first on stage the talented young singer/songwriter John Gaughan. Coached by Sharon on The Voice Ireland, John gave an excellent vocal and musical support performance.
The beautiful Sharon Corr in black leather skirt, sequinned top and shoes opened with ‘We Could be Lovers’, the second single from her new album ‘The Same Sun’. A small and appreciative audience clapped and wooed to welcome her as she went into ‘The Runaround’.
Soulful, sultry, velvet vocals delivered Irish fusions of jazz, blues, folk and country rock, whilst a hint of 60’s sound graced ‘Upon an Ocean’. Subtle lighting and songs weaved magical threads instrumentally, vocally and lyrically with excellent fiddle playing intricately laced.
A ‘rockier’ Sharon sang ‘Ears Painted On’ (anger at a record producer), later ‘Love Me Better’ segwayed The Corrs cover ‘Dreams’. Then moments of purity, her voice and guitarist Thad DeBrock gave us ‘Raindrops’ and ‘Take our Time.
Each song given unique treatment and her life shared humorously! A wistful ‘Small Town Boy’ (Bronski Beat), plus her latest single ‘Take A Minute’ written for her family played by multi talented band members who brought rock ballad ‘Full Circle’ to life, preceding ‘So Young’.
‘The Same Sun’ title track of the new album, plus a new treatment of ‘Say’ especially for Inverness, led into ‘The Joy of Life’ on the fiddle rewarded with a standing ovation!
Sharon Corrs 21 song show and new album was definitely a big hit!
