Review of Alice Bentley on the Potting Shed at Belladrum, 8th of August, 2014.

Alice Bentley 1 199x300 - Alice Owns it
” Never fails to impress with her exceptionally well judged covers”

Delighted to catch Alice alive and well and in particularly fine voice at the Potting Shed on Friday.

She never fails to impress with her exceptionally well judged covers (Pumped Up Kicks is Alice’s now as far as I’m concerned) and her own material matures particularly well and just gets stronger with each outing.

Well observed vignettes that comprise of a truly engaging mix of delicacy, awkwardness, heart and soul; Alice brings an unashamedly poetic voice to the Potting Shed.

Great news – Alice is working hard with an EP on the not too distant horizon, followed by more hard work and, there was talk of drums. Drums I tell you, make of that what you will.

Life-long engagement with music and a truly eclectic taste (although prog-rock and metal will usually have me scrambling for the off button). If pushed, I would have to say the Velvet Underground are one of the most important band’s of all time. Although I consider myself first and foremost a photographer, as regards reviewing I guess I cut my teeth in the vibrant fanzine scene of the 80’s. Around the same time I started taking photographs and, to be brief, performance and photography were made for each other: perfect match.
