One of our series of interviews with the acts of the Summer Ironworks Showcase and following our recent chat with the band, we get another opportunity to speak to The Oxides

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your music?
Jake: We are The Oxides from Inverness. We are a 60’s inspired Mod/Grunge band in which 2 guitars, bass and drums and going absolutely bonkers is the order of the day. Everyday.
How has 2014 been shaping up for you and your music?
Jake: Well it started kinda slowly for us after a bit of a lineup change, but the last 4 or 5 months we have really gained momentum. The rehearsals are sounding fantastic and the new songs are sounding great. Everyone is continually upping their game as musicians. We are spurring each other on to be better at what we do.
Archie:So far so good! Rehearsals are productive to say the least and we’re beginning to put the pedal to the metal.
Mikey: We’ve been practicing with the new line up for a good few months now and I feel that it can only go forward from here.
Tom: The band has managed to reach grade 3 on each of their corresponding instruments lately. This obviously signals a surge of huge potential for thrills, kills, frills, spills, window sills and skills to pay the bills.
How does it feel to be playing the showcase and how important are these events for the music scene?
Jake: It’s great to be invited back really. The Winter Showcase in 2012 was the last one we played and we have progressed so much since then. They are brilliant platform for us to get our stuff heard by an audience that might not usually get the chance to hear us.
Mikey:…hear us and then be converted! Its great for the local scene aswell! Great exposure.
Archie:The showcases are also good for keeping up with what’s happening on the local music scene.
Jake: …Yeah, absolutely true. Good point.

Which bands are you looking forward to seeing at the Showcases and why?
Jake: All of them really. It’s a great opportunity to hang out with other musicians and songwriters, music fans and other like minded individuals, hear some ace music and get absolutely steaming in the process.
What have you got planned for the rest of the year?
Jake: More of the same! As many gigs as we can possibly fit in, continue to work on and hone our set and hopefully by the new year we will be ready to go in and start recording our debut album.
Archie: Fun, plenty of fun! …I mean music and, fun. Gigging, playing and maybe recording. Like I say, fun!
Jake: What you are really trying to say is drinking, Arch…
Tom: The band have also planned to practice our stretches and eat more steak.
Jake:Time to get this show on the road, I reckon. See you on the 26th!
