Wickerman 2014 have announced the line-up for the goNORTH Festival Tour Tent and it is storming.
In it’s fourth, and final year prior to it’s rebrand, goNORTH will again host some of the most exciting new talent from Scotland and further afield.
“We are really looking forward to returning to the Wickerman this summer”, said goNORTH Project Manager, Alex Smith. “The festival provides a fantastic platform for showcasing a wide range of emerging talent and fully embraces the diversity of the acts that play in the goNORTH Festival Tour Tent. It is very exciting to be included in one of the most prestigious music festivals in Scotland”.
Headliners are poles apart for genres but perhaps not for talent with Edinburgh based indie folk act Broken Records headlining Friday night and on Saturday the “dark, evil techno beats” of Roman Nose.
The Friday line up sees United Fruit have a new album coming out, with our reviewer at Brew at the Bog 2013 commenting that they are “the finest punk rock you’ll get anywhere in Scotland”. Continuing a similar vibe are the thrashing “enigmatic” four-piece rock of Vladimir, garage punk trio Halfrican and alt-rock four piece Copper Lungs.
The Moon Kids will also be making an appearance front man Dave Barr said “if you come see our live show I have no doubt you will walk away with an abundance of uplifting hooks and melody’s ringing around your brain”. Dundee band, Our Future Glory may have a Bloc Party vibe, and certainly impressed as they played goNORTH in Inverness in June.
Alt folk rock band Dante, Glasgow four-piece Felix Champion and the atmospheric dream-pop band Prehistoric Friends finish off the bill on Friday night.
On Saturday we have Schnarff Schnarff, the Glasgow based band from Inverness. Frontman Myles Bonnar described their style; “our sound is alternative-punchy-rock-indie fuelled by cynicism, existentialism and our experiences on nights-out.”
Siobhan Wilson under the creative guise of Ella the Bird, created quite a stir at goNORTH in June, our reviewer noted “Her sparse guitar playing style and gentle vocal ensured that there was total hush throughout each song.” Culann are no strangers to Inverness Gigs and even on the smallest of stages (anybody at The Market Bar when they played will attest) they still manage ” blistering straight down the middle rock music with no f@@@ing about”.
We would be amiss not mention the three piece Pale Honey returning to Scotland ,from Sweden, for the second time in two months. We spoke to them prior to coming to Inverness when they said ” We’ve been longing and yearning to cross the borders of Sweden to play our music, and it feels like the perfect start for the summer.” In response to their planned return they said “woho! It’s gonna be awesome!”, we have to agree.
TeenCanteen who describe their music as “cherry-cola kissed, sticky-harmony indie-pop” or to others as crafted pop music for adults will also be on the bill. So too are We Came From Wolves from Perth and ,blending continental jazz and Balkan music, Adopted As Holograph. Finishing off the bill are Scary People from Dundee and the un-scary Angus Munro.
