goNORTH have announced a fringe event for the festival to be held at The Eagle on the 3rd of June. The event will bring together three local favourites whilst adding a European twist.
One of our strongest memories of Ashley and The Cosmonauts was when they were opening the stage for Belladrum 2014. The sun was out and the shades (at least Ashley’s shades) were on; an almost perfect setting for the likes of “Behind These Eyes”, “Clouds” and of course “Castles”.
Since then the band have played the likes of Brew at the Bog and of course supported Grousebeater Sound System at King Tuts in April. Whether Robin’s double bass will make it to the Eagle we are yet to see…
Sara Bills & The Hasbeens may boast alternative folk punk and they certainly share that local favourite tag with Ashley and Co.
The four piece enter their fifth year in October, but it was way back in 2011 when their last recording “Spill the Beans” was released.
The tracks have lost none of their poignancy over the time, with one reviewer noting “”In a sea of generic indie pop, this band retreat from lazy comparisons to Belle and Sebastian and the like, with their true creativity and local charm.”
Devil’s Queen will certainly bring a change of pace, and volume, to finish off the event. The band have recently been reinvigorated by a change of personnel with Andy Nisbet formerly of Toecutter taking on drumming responsibilities.
The band played on the main stage of the Easter Showcase where our reviewer noted “attention was truly grabbed and shaken by a voluminous display of power by Devil’s Queen. No quarter was asked and no quarter was given.”
Giving a European flavour to proceedings are Gothenburg based two (or three) piece Pale Honey. Describing themselves as minimalistic rock they explain on their website “Simply put, we love what we’re doing and think that the sound (with it’s easy, minimal sound) is nonchalant and sincere at the same time.” They have just recently released debut EP “Fiction” with an album planned for the late part of 2014.
The event start at 830pm and will be the perfect way to kick off the goNORTH 2014 festivities, promise.
We have set up an event’s page so if your coming let us know.
