Middle of Nowhere Records have announced Colin Macleod will release the single, ‘California’, on Monday 3rd March 2014. Lifted from his current ‘Anchor EP’, the track will be available in digital format only and be accompanied by new song, ‘Old Wars’.
In advance of the single, Colin has been confirmed as support to Newton Faulkner on a string of dates across the Highlands through January. He will also perform a headline show at St Andrew’s in the Square in Glasgow, on Thursday 23rd January as part of this year’s Celtic Connections.Colin will also be supporting label-mate Rachel Sermanni on three English dates in March:

Coming to widespread attention upon signing to Geffen Records in 2010 under his former creative guise, The Boy Who Trapped The Sun, the release of his major label debut, ‘Fireplace’, brought critical acclaim and high profile support slots with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Snow Patrol. Returning to the Isle of Lewis in 2011, the intervening years have seen Macleod settle in a remote croft and approach his work with a renewed creative vigour.
Recorded at his home studio and in a converted old green bus overlooking the ocean, ‘The Anchor EP’ marks his boldest and most coherent artistic statement to date. Drawing heavily on his native surroundings, the four track offering covers a diverse range of themes, showcasing a maturing quality of craft and a broadening lyrical depth. This is perfectly illustrated on ‘California’, with its beautifully languid delivery proving there is a West Coast bond whichever side of the Atlantic you live on.
Colin also made a strong return to the live circuit across 2013 and we managed to catch him at most of his gigs in and around Inverness, from the Ironworks to Rock Ness, Go North and a triumphant set at Belladrum. 2014 is shaping up to being equally busy for Colin and we’d strongly recommend you go and see him play when he next comes to a venue near you.
