The line-up for the semi finals of the Battle of the Bands at The Eagle have been announced.
Following some furiously fought evenings that have seen impressive crowds pulled to the venue, the dates and line ups of the semi finals have been announced.
Friday the 24th of January will see Bite Night who won through an eclectic evening on their debut gig, strong guitar section and a bucket of potential. A great example of what open nights and battle of the bands are about , bringing new talent to an audience. Much of which can also be said for Shaped, the Alness based trio who owned the stage and won the hearts of the judges last week.
Seed of Sorrow , completing the bill, the band are very much a different proposition, being an established and consistently impressive death metal five piece. Some very different music styles indeed for the first evening.
Saturday the 25th of January sees the much touted Cryptic Keys, Toby Stainton described their first round appearance “The soaring vocal talents of Dail Macdonald and Rhia Innes were an instant hit and there were more than a few mutterings of ‘spine tingling’ from members of the audience.” Coincidentally they will be joined by acoustic rockers Bring Back VHS, who shared billing with Cryptic Keys last week at Hootananny. The last band on the bill are the Fort William based Hired Guns who are a harder proposition with strong Iron Maiden, and bands of that ilk, influences.
Eagle Bar booker Stu Thain said “Myself, the judges and all the staff at the venue have been blown away by the quality of acts taking part in the competition and it’s been so difficult choosing the winner of each heat but we feel the semi-finals are packed full of great acts, it’s going to be an explosive couple of nights of talent”.
The winning band will win a package consisting of recording a single at Gargleblast Studios in Hamilton with established producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, The Fratellis), a professional music video to be filmed by Charlie Wilson and a digital release via Emubands (all profits for the single to go to the winning act).
