Inverness Gigs Photography Competition Winner Announced

When we came up with the idea of the forthcoming photography exhibition at the Eden court, it seemed to make sense that we launch a competition to acknowledge the huge amount of amateur photographers in the local music scene. However we we could not have anticipated the interest and the variety of material submitted to the Inverness Gigs team.

The decision did come down to the wire with and there were four very strong shortlisted photographer. The four who made it shortlist were;

Thin Lizzy's Marco Mendoza and Ricky Warwick at The Ironworks by Gillian Simpson

As you can tell the competition was indeed fierce but we are delighted to announce Ross Elder the winner.One of our judges Brian Vass remarked; “Technically well executed, stylish images with interesting processing”, Alastair Cunningham, another member of the judging panel, added “works brilliantly and love the colour contrasts”.

When we informed Ross, who also plays for band ROADWAY, he said ” I do love working on the stage performing music but it is equally as fun off stage capturing all of the action that you can see. I am very delighted to win this competition as I actually have not gained a lot of experience in this line of work but I do wish to do more of it.” Ross will have his photographs displayed at the forthcoming Inverness Gigs exhibition at Eden Court as well as having a pass to take photographs at Belladrum 2014.

Chris Lemon, competition organiser, commented “I would like to thank everybody involved in running this competition , from Belladrum for donating the prize to the three judges who have had an amazingly difficult decision to make. Most of all I would like to thank all of the competition entrants who by using their time to photograph local musicians and events are helping to promote the vibrancy of the local scene”.

The photography exhibition will be held at Eden Court Theatre from Sunday 26th January 2014 to Sunday 23rd February 2014. Further details and updates can be found at the Inverness Gigs Photography Facebook page.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene.In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
