The Dead Daisies play the Ironworks 5th December.
‘Supergroup’ is a term thrown about a bit too easily these days, however, when you have a band made up of members with a portfolio of ensembles such as Guns N Roses, INXS, the Rolling Stones, the Cult and many more, you start to see the value of the term ‘Supergroup’ in this case.
From their inception in 2012 of a songwriting partnership between two of Australia’s hardest working and most respected musicians, singer Jon Stevens and guitarist David Lowy to a full live powerhouse unit, you just knew that this was going to be something special.
The gigs started in Australia and New Zealand as guests to rock giants ZZ Top and Aerosmith then an invitation came to join the Rockstar Energy tour, which travelled throughout the USA and Canada in August and September.
Although built around the duo of Jon and David as the mainstays of the Dead Daisies, the rest of the band is a revolving door of who’s who in the world of rock. Currently, the solid rhythm section of Darryl Jones from the Rolling Stones and drummer Charley Drayton joins Richard Fortus and Dizzy Reid from Guns N Roses. Only a few weeks ago, Marco Mendoza of the Black Star Riders pinned down the bass until the other day job called for his services. And who dares say that guest guitarist on the album Slash won’t appear one day with the band.
Unlike the name, the Dead Daisies keep things fresh both in members and new songs; look out for some new material yet to be released as well as cuts from the strong debut. There are too many great tracks to pick out a favourite but look out for single ‘Lock ‘n’ Load and ‘Miles in Front of Me’.
By the time the boys arrive in Inverness, they will have warmed up most of the UK on the tour, so expect it to get hot!!
If you like great rock music with a slight vintage feel but still somehow modern, make sure you get yourself down early to the Ironworks on 5th December for what is sure to be an early Christmas present for your ears!
