In a first for Inverness, The Ironworks will play host to Rock N Wrestle on Friday October 25th, 2013.
The idea came about when PBW (Premier British Wrestling) owner Ross Watson and promoter Steve Robertson were talking about what they could do to give wrestling fans in Inverness something different. Steve mentioned being a member of Toby Michaels Rolling Damned and how their shared love of movies, comics and wrestling had never been a secret. In a flash of inspiration Ross suggested putting the two together and so Rock N Wrestle was born, a mix of live rock music and live wrestling matches featuring some of the UK’s top wrestling stars. Music will be provided by TMRD with house band duties being covered by The Groove Bones
Ross has enlisted some great talent on the wrestling side so far such as Grado who was the subject of a documentary by VICE on British wrestling. He has recently been cast in a sitcom starring Robert Florence (Burnistoun). Also appearing are Jack Jester and Davey Blaze who will take part in a Heavyweight Clash.
For those of you unfamiliar with PBW it was Founded in March 2006 and has quickly become one of the top wrestling companies in Europe today. Promoting sell-out shows all across Scotland in cities and towns such as Glasgow, Greenock, Maybole, Inverness, Alloa, Dumbarton, Barrhead and Airdrie, they claim that their shows contain only the best wrestling talent to be found across Scotland/Europe.
Since 2008 Premier British Wrestling has also brought many top international stars to Scotland including former WWE star Kevin Thorn, TNA star Douglas Williams, NJPW star Prince Devitt and ROH stars El Generico, Jimmy Jacobs and Matt Cross. PBW also played a huge part in the development of Scottish star Drew Galloway (now Drew McIntyre in WWE) before he set off for America in September 2007. Former PBW stars Martin Stone and Pac are also currently under contract to WWE.
For the main event PBW champion Liam Thompson will take on challenger BT Gunn and is being billed as a very personal grudge match after Gunn was beaten by Thompson ten months ago on Gunn’s home turf of Dumbarton.
Mad Hatters will host the after show shenanigans from 10:30pm with live music from Habitat and Metal Tech.
