A trio of acts including headliners, Red Hot Chilli Pipers have been announced for the Hogmanay celebrations at Northern Meeting Park, Inverness on December 31st, 2013.
Veterans of talent competition TV “When Will I Be Famous” and champions of the “Bag Rock” genre, Red Hot Chill Pipers will certainly warm up the atmosphere. Sue Wilson (Scotsman) said of their performance at Hebfest 2013 “that [they] comprehensively demonstrated the awesome force of precision-machined, unapologetically populist Celtic showbiz.’
Their latest album ‘Breathe’ showcases exactly what they are about with covers including Kings of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’, ZZ Top’s ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’ and Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’.
They will be joined for Inverness Hogmanay 2013 by Skerryvore who impressed at Hogmanay last year.They bring their brand of ‘nu-folk-rock’ to the Hogmanay celebrations. “Be prepared to be blown away” promises a review of of last year’s ‘World Of Chances‘ It was the release of self-titled third album, ‘Skerryvore’, that catapulted the band into the musical limelight winning a string of prestigious awards, including SNMA Record of the Year 2011 and STMA Live Act of the Year 2011, and garnering much critical acclaim.
Also on the bill , and great to see on the announcement, are local girls (and guys now) Dorec-a-belle. The band have had an impressive year including winning the Sunday Herald’s National Unsigned Band Competition and subsequently opening the stage at Wickerman 2013.
They supported the Magic Numbers when they played Inverness when our reviewer described “The blend of their harmonising all female vocals and irresistibly catchy songs made me want to ditch the formulation seating and start dancing. “.
Compere for the evening will be Craig Hill who seem to like the celebrations up here, having hosted the event the last couple of years.
