Tammy Miller who has been playing for around two years, certainly joins the ranks of the significant amount of precocious young musical talent around at the moment.
Tammy’s new EP ‘Let it Go’ (review here) has recently been officially launched and with an Inverness gig being announced for the Twelfth of October we thought we would catch up with her.
How are you feeling about your new EP?
I’m really excited for my EP being released, a lot of people have put so much hard work and effort into it and hopefully it’s all going to pay off at the launch tonight! Big big thanks to my manager, Stephen Barbour (also organiser of MV Festival), for making it all possible.
Who are your main influences in your music, and which musicians do you most look up to?
My main influences are Amy Macdonald, Kelly Clarkson, Kate Rusby and Nina Nesbitt. I look up to a lot of artists, it’s a difficult question to answer but people like Ed Sheeran who have worked hard to get where they are. He played thousand of small gigs before he got noticed and he seems really genuine.
I hate when people let the fame get to them and their personality changes.
What do you most enjoy about music?
The thing I enjoy most about music is how it can get through to a lot of people. It’s a form of expressive art and I know from experience that there is no better feeling than when you can relate to a good song.
What song are you most proud of writing and why?
I’m most proud of writing ‘Let It Go’ because it is such a personally song, I wrote it in about 30 minutes and cried the whole way through, those are the best ones. It’s a really personal song to me because of the story behind it, and it was hard for me to write.
What makes a good song for you?
A good song is a song which you can relate to, or one that tells a story and builds an image in your head. Something catchy is always could and something you can dance to, but if a song can bring you to tears, happy or sad, it’s a good song.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
10 years time, I could be anywhere. Things could really take off in music and I could be doing really well for myself in America somewhere, or I could be in an office job in Scotland, still playing little gigs. Let’s just hope for the first one!
