Carnivale returns to The Bothy on a weekly basis for October.

Following on from last week’s superb event featuring RM Hubbert and Shambles Miller, The Bothy will be hosting the acoustic sessions on Fridays from the Fourth to the Eighteenth of October.

Jake Morley headlines the first Carnivale of October with the North Londoner running a competition to win an ‘Everything back to Normal Button’ in celebration of his new tour and a new song of the same name. He will be joined on the bill by the newly formed duo of Dougie Burns and Al Davies, his “Harmonica compadre”. Red Hook Rapids finish off the bill, it seems like an age since the launch of  ‘Closer to Home’ , although in reality it was only a year ago.

Mike Nisbett, just off the back of his biggest headline act at Surya, London on the 9th of October will be travelling back to the Highlands to play on the 11th of October. He recently had a cracking  interview with Gig Slutz, where he talks about his influences, a follow up to last album ‘Vagrant’ and the similarities (or not) with Jeff Buckley. He will be joined by Caroline Trusove who has played recently at the Summer Showcase both as a solo act and with her band Habitat. Former band mate and occassional Rolling Damned member Dave Sidley finishes the bill on the 11th.

Ending the month on the Eighteenth, due to the wrestling the week after, are Scourgie Heights, who we last saw at the David Bowie night earlier in the year. Dr. Wook aka The Whiskys’ Kris Douglas will be continuing to build his reputation as a solo artist. Last act on the bill is Susanna Wolfe whose first line on her website bio brought a smile to our face: “Classically trained as a vocalist, dabbled in folk, discovered Punk ( major family upset)”.

The Bothy proves to be an almost perfect setting for these intimate gigs that have previously seen acts such as eclectic as Miss Irenie Rose to Iain Mclaughlin play.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
