A review of Lionel at the Seedlings stage at Belladrum 2013 on the 3rd of August.
No holds barred, Inverness band Lionel kicked straight in with a feisty open to their set on the Seedlings stage. Pulling in a decent sized crowd they played a set of alternative rock/indie sounding music, that also leaned towards the BritPop era at times.
Their songs ranged from rocky, loud guitars and catchy lyrics to more melodic numbers. No matter what type of song they play, you’re guaranteed there will be some spectacular guitar work involved, with some impressive solos being flaunted.
Lead singer, Joshua Mackenzie invited everyone to “go crazy” – an invitation that several people gladly took, ‘dancing’ until their hearts were content in the middle of the tent.
Like so many who have played the Seedlings stage before them, Lionel have the potential to rocket, and they proved that they have all of the right ingredients to be a very successful band. Before leaving they ensured they left everyone with a lasting impression by thrashing out an incredible piece of purely instrumental music with distorted guitars and loud drums whipping everyone into a frenzy.
