We catch up with the Disco Cats as part of a series of interviews with acts that are playing the Ironworks Summer Showcases.
The Disco Cats consist of brothers Brodie and Matt Simpson (on guitar and drums respectively), Lisle Geddes (Bass) and Steven Melens (Guitar). They have known each other for some time, they explain; “Growing up together we had a mutual taste in music and in recent years we have spent a lot of time just jamming together and it really just went from there”.
They describe themselves as an Alternative/Indie band although they acknowledge listening to a “lot of punk and metal stuff” eg Operation Ivy. They concede; “really our music is influenced by a huge range of different bands and genres from across the board.”
Whilst new to gigging, when asked about favourite venue the response is clear, Mad Hatters “its a good intimate setting and its bouncing in there when there’s a good crowd”. They return to the venue alongside Last Summer Effect and Daydream Frenzy on the 16th of August.
But first they play the Summer Showcase on the 25th of July with City in Surveillance and Charlies Ranch, the band are also keen to catch Be Like Pablo at the Showcase ; “ [they] will put on a good show there nice people and we’ve always enjoyed seeing them before.”
Busy times are promised for the band as they look towards recording and gigging further afield as they discuss their plans “Definitely record an EP, we’ll be doing that very soon and then get some shows in other parts of the UK and try and get our music out there.”
Keep track of their plans via Facebook.
