Be Like Pablo join Kid Canaveral on the bill at Mad Hatters, Inverness on Saturday the 27th of April 2013.
We were lucky to get a catch up with Ewen Watson of the Be Like Pablo to see where they have been hiding and what they are up to.
For Be Like Pablo it will be the first time that they have played as a full band for six months (although played an acoustic set at Hootananny over Easter). The band had been gaining a good bit of momentum, what with a Rockness appearance, play from Dermot O’Leary and a live session on Vic Galloway’s show. However the band have not disappeared, although they certainly have changed a little.
Ewan explains; “A big factor in our disappearance has been that we’ve recently undergone a fairly significant line-up change but we’ve also been working hard on fine-tuning our live show“ he added “I’ve also been watching a lot of Doctor Who.” The “line-up change” Ewen refers is the addition of a new full-time drummer and a new synth player/vocalist: “I’m really happy with how things are shaping up” …. “to me, the band’s never been better”.
During the time away from gigging they have also managed to revisit and re-record “Without the Pain”, which will be released digitally under Stray Cat Records in June. The original version of the song appeared on the bands debut album ‘The New Adventures’. The track has developed to become “more streamline and accessible”. The song includes rapping from Kuda, and Ewan notes that this is not normal for a Be Like Pablo Tune ; “People won’t associate Be Like Pablo with rap but we like having fun with our songs and I think we’ve been able to do something different without compromising our sound”. Attempts to get George Clooney to star in the video may not come off, but we have been promised “a super cool video” to join the single release.Along with the single, which is going to be the first step of a much bigger release, will come a tour which is to be announced soon (keep an eye on Be Like Pablo’s Facebook page).
Be Like Pablo are supporting Kid Canaveral who are playing as part of the promotional tour for new album ‘Now You are A Dancer’. The newly released follow up to ‘Shouting at Wildlife’ has been well received by the press with Peenko concluding his review by say “it’s still an indie-pop record. It’s also a bloody great indie-pop record. You should probably buy it now, if you haven’t already.” Well that’s you told.
Doors open at 930pm for the free gig at Mad Hatters.
