Learn Your Lines for Hogmanay

A double helping of TV coverage has been announced for the Red Hot Highland Fling and people planning to attend the Hogmanay Show are being seriously encouraged to get to know the words of Auld Lang Syne.

As the final straight in preparations for the Red Hot Highland Fling 2012/13 beckons, Gerry Reynolds of the organising team is encouraging folks attending to start practising Auld Lang Syne so that they are in form for Hogmanay.

The BBC have planned to cover the Northern Meeting Park event this year, with BBC Alba recording Skerryvore’s set and also coming live for the fireworks at the Bells . The cameras will return to Inverness, along with other Scottish Cities,as BBC Scotland goes live for the rendition of Auld Lang Syne after the Bells.

It’s fair to say there is a wee bit of anxiety following the discovery that nobody knows the second verse to ensure that we give a good account for ourselves. So from midday on Hogmanay, the Wee Hot Highland Flings “hit squads” will be in town encouraging folk to practice the song. Indeed a council insider has warned “if you do not know the words,we will find you”. With sterner action promised on the night if anybody dares join their hands before the second verse.

To help, the words will be projected on the Town Hall from Christmas Day and the Wee Hot Highland Fling will be the perfect opportunity to practice as MFR’s Nicky Marr hosts a mass singing of Auld Lang Syne Sing-a-long at the Eastgate Shopping Centre at 2.45pm. As well as a sing-a-long the Wee Hot Highland Fling promises all kinds of child friendly chaos from fiddlers at the town house, opportunities to sit on the Provost’s seat to stilt walkers and the characters from Mascot Madness will be on the loose.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
