Following today’s vote at Inverness Council, the legislation that restricted venues from allowing people to enter venues after midnight has been removed.
The vote, it is fair to say was very close with councillors being split 5 votes in favour or abolishing it, 5 votes in favour of keeping it. The chairwoman used her casting vote to abolish the restriction which also affects Aviemore and Thurso. The restriction has been in place since 2003, with occasional relaxations most notably for goNORTH this year.
The work of the Banish the Inverness Curfew group has been significant in lobbying and promoting the removal of the “Cinderella” rule.
However, and this is a big however, it is believed that the the late night venues have agreed to voluntarily retain the curfew. So it will be interesting to see what the implications will have on individual venues and Inverness in general. But what do you think?
