The Red Hot Highland Fling will see Big Country return to the Royal Northern Meeting Park following their support slot of Simple Minds in 2011. Big Country show no sign of slowing down, despite the recent retirement of Tony Butler from the band, having recently announced of a gig on the 30th of December at the birthplace of Big Country, Dunfermline Glen Pavilion.

They will be joined by The Treacherous Orchestra, boast that they are  “Scotland’s foremost group of anarchic tunesmiths” and “The biggest acoustic driven thirteen piece on the planet” on their Facebook page. The instrumentalist’s most recent album Origins, concluded with the line “I suspect they sound even better live.”. If you can’t wait to see them at Hogmanay, get along to their gig on the 5th of October at the Ironworks (tickets at www.IronworksVenue.com).

Third on the bill are Skerryvore, who coincidentally have also lost a bassist recently, bring their brand of ‘nu-folk-rock’ to the Hogmanay celebrations. “Be prepared to be blown away” promises a review of recently released World of Chances. Last but by no means least are The Whisky River Band, worthy of their own article (see Whisky River Band play Hogmanay).

Craig Hill will return as host of the event, bringing his form of wit and charm.  Events and Festival Working Group Chairman Councillor Glynis Sinclair said: “We have enjoyed an incredibly busy and successful summer events and festival programme and now we are looking forward to another exciting winter programme.“

Red Hot Highland Fling will the the final event of winter programme of council events, which will also include:

• The Ness Islands Halloween Show “Haunted!” on 15/16 October
• The annual bonfire and fireworks display on 5 November
• Remembrance Sunday – 11 November

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me via our Facebook page.
