Up and coming American singer/song writer, Joshua James plays at Mad Hatters, Hootananny on Saturday October the 20th.
It’s funny how a decent quote will hook you in to the musician referred to and make you check out their music with a sense of urgency. For Joshua James it was from Esquire magazine who described him as”This 25-year-old songwriter already has the wisdom to know that if you’re going to serve up a blood-drenched biblical allegory, you best have an old soul’s voice to sing it with. Every line rings with desperation and a desire for salvation.”
Repeated listens of ‘Coal War’ have done nothing to dampen our enthusiasm for the twenty five year old. Indeed ‘Coal War’ was featured in the opener for season 4 of The Sons of Anarchy although he had previously featured in season 3 singing a cover of Herman’s Hermits, ‘No Milk Today’. He was subsequently picked by the shows music supervisor as one of the track’s that best represents the show’s use of music in 2011.
Whilst Joshua admits on his website that “Perhaps the darkness comes out a little more often that I’d like,” it brings with it an angst ridden call to action.
Get to Mad Hatters, doors open at 8pm.
